Aren’t you proud of your boy Jess, he's such a great kid and a really good ball player, one of the moms said to her in the stands. "It’s the 6th inning (they only play 6 at this age), the game is tied and she is talking to me", thinks Jess to herself ... obviously aggravated. Strike 2!
Seems like yesterday he had that plastic bat and could barely make contact with that huge plastic ball, but Ryan wouldn’t put that bat down for anything. Times haven’t really changed that much, except he can hit the ball now. Such a proud mom ...Jess jumps up with the crowd as Ryan slides into second, safe. Safe at second base. First two batters out, Ryan is now on second, bottom of the 6th, tie game.
That first glove, the nerf glove so the ball would stick to the mitt, Jess is sure she still has that somewhere.
The pitch gets by the catcher and Ryan is standing at third. Just like that, the winning run 90 feet away.
The pitcher is rattled but so is Jess. He takes a deep breath as he readies himself, Jess does too and Ryan is ready. He grabs his necklace, places it to his lips and then tucks it back in his shirt. The pitcher glances over, winds up, it’s in the dirt and as the pitcher rushes to home plate, Ryan is almost there. They arrive at the same time and all Jess can see is a cloud of dirt and then … the baseball rolling away …
